- XVIII - A la muerte del Rey de Francia

Cuando el furor del iracundo Marte,
al viento desplegaba las banderas,
y levantaba al son de cajas fieras
ira sangrienta Enrique en toda parte;
cuando empezaba a fabricar el arte
artificiosas máquinas guerreras,
y cuando, atento a las dudosas veras,
el mundo estaba ya de parte a parte;
puesta la mano a la atrevida espada,
ofreciendo fortuna fin sangriento
de la dudosa guerra a la victoria,
cortó el hilo la Parca apresurada
a la vida y al alto pensamiento,
dejando eterna al mundo su memoria.
