Tal vez la más sublime esfera toco
de los orbes de amor, do pruebo y siento
un infeliz, cobarde encogimiento
con que a imperfecta lástima provoco.

A mucho se dispone y vuela poco
mi osado y rendido pensamiento,
muy temeroso para atrevimiento,
y para no atrevido ya muy loco.

¡Oh laberinto, oh confusión, oh engaño,
en que estoy, la que sufro y la que sigo,
sin fe el remedio y sin aviso el daño!

Donde el hado infelizmente enemigo
es oráculo ya de un desengaño
que quiso ser remedio y fue castigo.
