Debe tan poco al tiempo el que ha nacido
en la estéril región de nuestros años,
que premiada la culpa y los engaños,
el mérito se encoge escarnecido.

Ser un inútil anhelar perdido,
y natural remedio a los extraños;
avisar las ofensas con los daños,
y haber de agradecer el ofendido.

Máquina de ambición, aplausos de ira,
donde sólo es verdad el justo miedo
del que recibe el daño y se retira.

Violenta adulación, mañoso enredo,
en fe violada han puesto a la mentira
fuerza de ley y sombra de denuedo.
