A un almendro plantado junto a un moral

Tú que en la pompa ya de flores vana,
perdiste, o planta, la sazón madura,
donde tu juventud te quitó dura
cuanto verdor te aceleró temprana.

Si en la inclemencia de los Cierzos cana
no te avisó del daño en hermosura,
estéril tronco estés, ruina oscura,
de infame acero, de segur villana.

Próvido miedo es ley del que desea,
tenle ya tú, que prevenir las veces,
a los males ni ofende, ni embaraza.

Este antiguo Moral tu ejemplo sea,
que la injuria temiendo que padeces,
en tu mismo peligro se amenaza.
