- LVIII - Especifica su vista

Hay de vista una especie generosa,
que el rayo puro de la luz resiste;
otra que busca la tiniebla triste
del esplendor más débil temerosa.

Otra (regida mal; bien deseosa
de alegrarse en la luz) que al fuego asiste;
y hasta que de su muerte en el se viste,
(de esta especie es mi vida) no reposa.

No puede resistir de mi sol claro,
el poderoso rayo, que la ofende,
ni sabe de la noche hacer reparo;

antes vestirse de la luz pretende,
y dando cercos mil al aire raro,
goza del fuego la virtud enciende.
