Al dulce son de vuestro blando acento
vi las aves sin dueño ya cautivas,
suspensas vi las aguas fugitivas
del Darro en su orgulloso movimiento,

vi el rumor de los árboles atento,
vi del aire cesar las lenguas vivas,
vi humanarse las fieras más esquivas
y moverse las piedras de su asiento.

Me vi también de vuestro canto asido,
Fénix bella, y al céfiro, a las aves,
piedras, árboles, fieras y corriente

dije: «Pues este canto os da sentido,
sentid, testigos de este bien suaves,
que ya mi alma de sentir no siente.»
