Puso en ti del autor la sabia mano
alma quieta en sangre generosa,
anciano fruto en niña flor hermosa,
divino ingenio en un sujeto humano.
Mas luego puso, ¡ay triste!, amor tirano
entre blanco jazmín y fresca rosa
la Ceraste mordaz más venenosa
que humor vertió de racional insano.
Tú, piadoso, quizás por no acabarme,
huyes y escondes su veneno esquivo
como si esto bastara a remediarme;
pero es aumento que en mi mal recibo,
pues muero cuando dejas de matarme,
y sólo el tiempo que me matas vivo.
