De El melancólico

Estaba melancólico yo, cielos,
por ver que un imposible apetecía,
¿qué haréis agora, pues, desdicha mía,
si sobre un imposible os cargan celos?
Corales dan al corazón consuelos,
y en mí corales son melancolía:
vuélvase a un desdichado en noche el día;
lo que a otros da quietud, a mí desvelos.
Sabio dicen que soy, mas si lo fuera,
tuviera en mis pasiones sufrimiento;
pero, ¿quién le tendrá con tanto agravio?
Siempre el entendimiento fue su esfera,
y contra injurias del entendimiento
jamás supo tener prudencia el sabio.
