- XIII -

Amor, con la cabeza de Medusa,
tiranamente trata mi firmeza;
muéstrame su rigor y su belleza
por quien de mil tiranas armas usa.
Miro de transformados la confusa
pesadumbre que infaman su dureza;
quiero excusar mi mal y la pereza
del encanto cruel mi intento excusa.
Quedo de mármol simulacro eterno
a su templo terrible consagrado
como los que atrevidamente vieron.
Y echo despojo del tirano tierno,
no excusando poder tiranizado,
me ofende como aquellos que ofendieron.
