¿Cuál elemento, cuál estrella o cielo
sustenta, influye, encubre, tiene o cría
hierba, piedra, licor, raíz, arpía,
contra la fuerza de un ardiente hielo?
No cría el agua, ni produce el suelo,
la noche esconde, ni descubre el día
encanto duro, ni ponzoña fría,
que rompa el lazo de enemigo celo.
Esta Medusa, y esta Circe bella,
tal es la fuerza que en sus ojos tiene,
tales encantos hace con sus ojos,
que hiele el alma con su fuego, y de ella
oculta causa juntamente viene,
con que sustenta vivos sus despojos.
