Callar quiero y sufrir, pues la osadía
de haber puesto tan alto el pensamiento
basta por galardón del sufrimiento
sin descubrir más loca fantasía.

Sufrir quiero y callar, mas si algún día
los ojos descubrieren lo que siento,
no castiguéis en mí su atrevimiento,
que lo que mueve, Amor, no es culpa mía.

Ni aún ellos por mirar el propio objeto
de su felicidad merecen pena,
que basta la que sufren con su ausencia.

mas ¿cómo podrá amor estar secreto
dentro de un alma de esperanza ajena,
si la piedad no esfuerza su paciencia?
