Es muerta la esperanza a quien ausente
vive de su dolor atormentado,
pues vive con extremo enajenado,
y el alma martiriza juntamente.
Tal vez le enseña a amar su bien presente,
para pena mayor de su cuidado,
tal vez de fantasías rodeado,
morir se mira y abrasarse siente.
Luego del bien le ciñen sus dolores,
para llegar a amar merecimientos
a quien el alma suya está rendida.
Pues vive sólo en fe de sus amores,
y si vive es muriendo en pensamientos,
puesto que sin morir no venga vida.
