- CXXXIV - A la muerte de un niño
Este pimpollo tierno y generoso,
que se mostraba ya fresco y lucido,
del patrio y fértil tronco dividido,
cayó en el seno del común reposo.
Mas transpuesto en terrenos más dichoso,
renueva flor y fruto enriquecido;
no teme la inclemencia, ni el bramido
del seco invierno y austro tempestuoso.
Que en el eterno reino sin mudanza
luce otro sol más puro, y otro cielo
que en las plantas influye eterna vida.
¿Quién, pues, con tan segura confianza,
oso soltar la rienda al desconsuelo,
viendo en verde sazón gloria florida?
