- CXXII -

La lira cuya dulce fantasía
hizo en Delfos honor al rayo puro
del que hurtándole al tiempo lo futuro
eternizó su métrica armonía,
debiera, ninfa bella, ser la mía
porque contra el rigor del tiempo duro
de vuestro nombre el esplendor seguro
sin ocaso lograse feliz día.
Pero de ronca voz quejoso acento,
¿cómo podrá cantar, si a viva llama
no ayudare de Amor fuerza ni aliento?
Tal que mi pecho ascienda donde inflama
más sublime región, noble ardimiento,
el clarín usurpando de la fama.
