Un mal me sigue y otro no me deja;
si callo, no me sufro a mí conmigo,
y si pruebo a quejarme, cuanto digo
nuevo peligro es y culpa vieja.
Ya la noticia cumple, pues se aleja;
mas la distante voz de un enemigo,
despierta las ofensas y el castigo,
y la razón sepulta de mi queja.
¿Qué haremos, pues, sino morir callando,
hasta que la fortuna desagravie
razón tan muerta, sinrazón tan viva?
Los preceptos inicuos tolerando
del tiempo, que, aunque muera, aunque rabie,
la voz no hable, ni la pluma escriba.
