- LXII -

Después de haber pasado mil contrastes
del tiempo, del amor, de la fortuna;
despedido esperanzas una a una,
roto los lazos que en secreto armastes;
después que vos y el mundo me avisastes
de cuanta vanidad cubre la luna;
cuando ya la ambición no me importuna,
ni aquel nudo me aprieta, que aflojastes;
después de haber gozado largos años
de un reposo imperfecto, porque el miedo
de este peligro siempre me ha seguido;
la libertad rendí a muchos engaños:
crucé los brazos a aquel gran denuedo,
tan desacostumbrado a ser vencido.
