- V - A la muerte de Adonis
Boca con boca Venus porfiaba
a detener el alma que salía
del desdichado Adonis, que moría
más herido del bien que acá dejaba.
El no poder morir ella lloraba,
no lloraba la muerte que veía;
Amor allí, mostró que no podía
ayudar a sentir lo que causaba.
Ella en brazos le tiene; quien los viera,
igualmente llorar la despedida,
apenas juzgará cuál de ellos muere.
Mas la diosa mostró quedar vencida
de dolor tanto más, cuanto más quiere
dar a Adonis el alma que la vida.
