¡Oh cuánto dice en su favor quien calla,
porque de amar sufrir es cierto indicio,
y el silencio el más puro sacrificio
y adonde siempre amor mérito halla!
Morir en su pasión sin declaralla
es de quien ama el verdadero oficio,
que un callado llorar por ejercicio
da más razón por sí, no osando dalla.
Quien calla amando, sólo amando muere,
que el que acierta a decirse no es cuidado;
menos dice y más ama quien más quiere.
Porque si mi silencio no ha hablado,
no sé deciros más que, si muriese,
otro os ha dicho lo que yo he callado.
