Ríndome al tiempo, cedo a la violencia
de fortuna cruel, de injusto hado,
y no voy mal, pues voy desengañado
de mi esperanza y no de mi paciencia.

De hoy más viva celante la advertencia,
tal que apenas de incrédulo avisado,
librando el tribunal de mi cuidado
en la fe culpa, en el temor prudencia.

Mis repetidas quejas dan al viento
el que nunca recato desmentido,
ni el miedo culpa, ni el peligro engaña.

Mudará clima, y firme en el intento,
ánimo contrastado y no rendido,
treguas hará, y no paces con hazaña.
