- XLIX -

Arbitro Amor entre esperanza y miedo,
sigue natural fe de una porfía;
yo entre razón y voluntad debía
decidir sólo, y más ambiguo quedo.
Piso ya el laberinto en cuyo enredo,
si luz me ciega, ceguedad me guía;
puedo conmigo, y no lo que querría,
quiero de mí y de vos lo que no puedo.
Sí debiera poder, mas no asegura
razón Amor, que ahora ingratamente
agravios da a beber a fe tan pura.
Sospechoso rigor cuyo accidente
ha hecho desdichada la ventura,
la fe culpa, y la queja conveniente.
