¿Qué importa que la bala disparada
sobrepuje a las nubes con su vuelo
si, al caerse con más golpe en el suelo,
la he de postrar su indignación pesada?

¿Qué importa que la nave ya engolfada
en la borrasca con mortal recelo
amaine, arroje al mar y pida al cielo,
si al fin está a las olas condenada?

¿Qué importa, pues, que mi ánimo engañado
me prometa el valor en que me fundo,
si al fin me ha puesto en este triste estado?

¿Qué importa que por honra salga al mundo
si todo le persigue al desdichado
y yo soy en desdichas sin segundo?
