Musa atrevida al Sol que su luz canta
desde que el mundo en cándido rocío
bajó sobre el Vellón, hasta que el río
de su sangre creció, potente y santa;
no es de Aganipe, no, ni fuerza tanta
tuviera de Hipocrene, el cristal frío,
otra deidad mayor, más alta Clío
mueve tu plecto, inspira tu garganta.
Oscurecer la fama no presume
el poderoso tiempo en su porfía:
que al cantar y escribir tal argumento,
el águila de Joan te dio la pluma,
Hamán la voz, David el argumento,
y los orbes celestes la armonía.
