Ponerse el rubio sol en el oriente,
y prestando su luz la casta diosa,
nacer la blanca y encarnada rosa
del fuego activo en la región caliente;

surcar del mar la espalda transparente
de elefantes la escuadra numerosa,
y ballenas en tropa y voz gozosa
la seca arena de la Libia ardiente;

dar la perdiz al elefante guerra,
las libres al león hacer agravio,
huir el lobo hambriento del cordero;

pararse el sol y dar vuelta la tierra,
hasta aquí no lo has visto , pueblo sabio,
ni yo tampoco, a fe de caballero.
