- XLVI - O muerto, o vida
Fénix que flechas me arrojáis mortales,
¿ya qué intentáis de aqueste amante reo?
Vuestro es mi corazón, vuestro el deseo,
causa de vuestros bienes, y mis males.
Si los dolores a la fuerza iguales
fueran, de la flaqueza, que poseo
cerrara el triste labio, pero veo,
que soy mortal, cual ellos inmortales.
Cese un instante, ya, la llama ardiente;
dejadme a vuestra sombra recostado,
si sombra en tantas luces se consiente.
Crezca el rigor, y acabe mi cuidado,
dad lugar a que muera por valiente,
o quede por cobarde aprisionado.
