- XLIII - Consejo sano a sus ojos
¿Qué pretendéis de amor? ¿qué de fortuna
si muertes no? ¿sino pesares tristes?
¡Ay ojos de llorar! Otros os vistes
(¡cómo pasan los bienes!) en la cuna.
Otros cuando con lágrima importuna
(lengua enloquece en la niñez) perdistes
dulce sustento, y dulce obedecistes
materno arrullo sin violencia alguna.
Rebeldes ya, ni conocéis sustento;
muros si combatís, do amor tirano
(no el arco) rayos vibra ciento a ciento.
Tan difícil conquista en bulto humano
ojos mejor será (mudad intento)
vencerse tarde, que morir temprano.
