- XXI - Ausencia triste

¿De qué te quejas, corazón? Resiste
los golpes duros de la ausencia fuerte,
pues dejaste la vida por la muerte,
cuyo triunfo en tu dolor consiste.
Mas, ay, que tanto la memoria asiste,
guerreo vigilante, en ofenderte,
que es fuerza que mi amor para valerte
en llanto te desate, en llanto triste.
Muda ya en mares, pues, los ojos míos
y este mi pecho en fuego: fuertes luchen
el agua y fuego con mi pecho roto;
viva muriendo en abrasados fríos,
donde los ecos de su voz escuchen
ausente Fénix y presente Cloto.
