- VIII - Quejas disculpadas

Del áspero lugar la seca rama
se querella, si al fuego la condena;
la blanca vela, de la parda entena,
si su tesoro el Aquilón derrama;

si al coral falta su cerúlea cama,
se altera enardecido en tierra ajena;
el mal seguro leño en mar serena,
gimiendo, al monstruo que le rige infama.

Estos se quejan sin tener sentido,
sin tener vida: pues que vivo, siento
fuego en mi pecho, mares en mis ojos,

la boca en aire y a la tierra asido,
portentoso de amor soy vencimiento.
Deja, Fénix, que sienta mis enojos.
