¡Oh vil naturaleza, esclava ingrata,
que a quien compró su libertad ofende!,
¡oh corrupción que con la edad se extiende!,
¡oh luz que en vana sombra se desata!

Bruto obediente, a aquel que le maltrata,
y al que más le acaricia no le entiende;
mortal error que eternidad pretende,
y de un soplo a otro soplo se dilata.

Qué pretendes con ropas, dignidades,
oficios, mitras, títulos, grandezas,
si todo es vanidad de vanidades.

¡Cargaste, oh caminante!, en asperezas,
¡engañaste, oh mentira en tus verdades!,
¡esfuérzate oh mortal con tus flaquezas!
