Clavó la vista en el cadáver frío,
y faltó el movimiento a la cabeza,
que trasformado al cuerpo en su dureza
el corazón creció por lo vacío.

De ver el caso sumamente impío;
helada se quedó naturaleza:
Helado el pulso en su postrer viveza:
que tal rigor se debe a tal delirio.

Teme pues Fénix tú, si temor cabe
en un pecho leal y generoso;
o al mármol en dureza desafía;

que cual Pigmalión de mármol sabe
labrar (y yo lo sé) pecho amoroso,
el ceguezuelo que en mi fin porfía.
