¿Si un justo amor, y si un cortés deseo,
a tan gloriosa empresa levantado,
si un recíproco intento regalado,
que nunca tuvo pensamiento feo.
Y si una fe tan limpia, cual no creo
que se ha en humanos pechos engendrado,
después de haberse por quien es mostrado
me ha puesto en los extremos que me veo?
¿Cómo a la luz no vuelvo soberana,
do fue el alma engendrada, y procedida,
dando desprecio a la belleza humana?
Mas tengo (¡ay triste yo!) razón perdida,
fe con cadenas, esperanza vana,
memoria muerta, voluntad rendida.
