El valor de cobardes corregido,
el corazón, y la derecha mano
herida aquesta de un traidor villano,
y aquel de un noble, por leal herido.

Libre, desesperado, y ofendido,
del yugo, gloria, y fuerzas del tirano,
ya de fortuna (¡oh flaco aliento humano!)
al incesable trabajar rendido.

Estoy, (¡ved cuál! ajeno de venganza,
que es mi ofensa mayor, que el enemigo,
y que mi enojo el tiempo, y su tardanza.

Y en tantos males, por remedio sigo
del hado incontrastable la mudanza:
Sentid don Diego, pues que sois mi amigo.
