Pudiera mi tormento haber quebrado
el fuerte acero, y el diamante duro;
pudiera enternecer mi llanto puro
un corazón de pedernal labrado;
y aqueste no, ni aquel han lastimado
(¡mísero yo!) tu pecho tan seguro,
que no promete en término futuro,
por las manos del tiempo ser mudado.
En el peñasco descubrí de cera
(con mi gemir) entrañas, y alma humana,
en la silvestre ensangrentada fiera.
Como di en tu hermosura soberana
un corazón de peña verdadera
hallé, y un alma en el Tigre Hircana.
