Si porque Sophonisba te lo manda,
contra Scipión resuelves, Masinisa,
siguiendo las bandera y divisa
de Aníbal, que apretando al Cónsul anda.

¿Por qué, di, si Cartago se desmanda
contra Scipión después, le das tal prisa,
que apenas Sophonisba el suelo pisa
segura, cuando Roma la demanda?

Prometióme esa dama casamiento,
y por que la dio a Siface Cartago,
me le muestro tan áspero y sangriento,

y si lo que me escribe Scipión hago,
la falta de ella, y mi desabrimiento,
ni merece, ni pide menor pago.
